Maria Smeets has a bachelor Creative Art Therapy and has gratuated at the Media Academy.
“Painting is total freedom. I do not feel inhibited at all by fashion or dominant art styles. My work is characterised by a strong element of story telling. I like dangerous colour combinations. It’s a challenge to paint in a way that some colours clash, as well as cooperate. An important theme is my admiration of nature, the longing for nature and a sense of its magnitude. In my paintings, intuitive impulses, inner and outer reality and longing exist alongside one another and overlap. I like to paint big, very big. So that my whole body paints with me.”
